Chairman's Welcome Message 2010/2011
A well known truism states that the lifeblood of any organisation is its NEW members and Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club is no exception. We need you to join our Club of eight Mens' and one [at the moment] Ladies' sides to maintain the flow of fresh young blood with fresh new skills and fresh new ideas.Whilst we acknowledge that all you newcomers ,Freshers especially, will be working extremely hard during your first year, you will need a good, stimulating , healthy outlet to redress the balance. We at SUBHC can, in part, provide this for you in the following ways.
* The three top sides offer a high standard of competition.
* Good quality hockey is available throughout the other sides- which are accessible to ALL.
* Top level coaching. Regular training.
* Very good playing facilities.
* Very sociable Clubhouse called the Nottingham House pub-very close to the pitches-serving excellent beers, lagers and wines and Albert's pies -homemade- which are to die for!
* Great team spirit throughout the Club.
* An active and ENJOYABLE social scene.
Come along and receive a warm and spontaneous welcome from everyone at the Club at our FRESHERS' PARTY on the 9th October, at our Clubhouse , fondly known as the Notty.
You don't , however, need to wait that long. Look out for our representatives at the Freshers' Fair and the Trials and get all the information you need. We also have a number of pre-season games in September with Thursday training in full swing. So, do not delay- get in touch and let us know who you are.
Our Club was founded in 1925 as Sheffield Bankers and merged in 1999 and became Sheffield University Bankers in which time phenomenal success was enjoyed however, no club can survive without a hardcore of dedicated members and we have these in spades. From an experienced and hardworking Executive Committee complemented by other determined officials and a well focused set of players, far too many to mention here and, it is to these individuals we also extend our thanks and welcome for helping to make this the fine Club it is.
Finally, this coming season has promise and potential writ large all over it but however successful we are on the park, we will ensure it will be both memorable and ENJOYABLE!
Yours in Friendship,
BOB HINDLE
SUBHC CHAIRMAN
Ps. My thanks must go to my good mate Graham Seaton and Fixture Secretary for helping me craft this message.
***STOP PRESS***
We welcome, warmly, our three new players, BEN, RICHARD and MANY who have joined SUBHC and will help us regain National League status, at the first time of asking. No pressure, guys!
We are also highly chuffed to say that the irrepressible Fruitbatt, aka Christina Woods, is not now going to Germany but is staying on at this UNI and will captain our Ladies team--need we say more!
