Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club - Sign Up
Hi, and a warm welcome.

If you are a Fresher, or new to the area, then this is especially for YOU.

Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club has an excellent reputation both on - and off - the pitch, and we look forward to welcoming you into the SUBHC fold.

Whatever your hockey skills and aspirations, we at SUBHC will have something for you. We currently run 8 Men's and 2 Ladies' sides, with teams playing a decent standard of hockey, and we can ensure that you will enjoy your hockey with us.

At the Freshers' trials in September, our Club Captain and his team will be on hand with information and advice.

At the Freshers' Bazaar, you will learn about the great relationship which exists between our two clubs and the benefits to be garnered by being a member of both. We offer very competitive Subs to SUHC members who join us.

Join us and see for yourself.

Initially, your key contacts are -- Steve 'Brooky' Brook (Club Captain) and Lee 'Touli' Toulson (1st XI coach)
* Steve - 07733042811
* Lee - 07764449814

Our clubhouse is the Cobden View, which is a mere long corner from the pitches. It's a fantastic "local" pub with excellent, reasonably-priced beers, ciders, spirits, etc. The teas provided to us by the licensee Laura are second to none, and we have been presented with the John Herbert award by YHA Umpires for our welcome and hospitality.

Finally, all that is now left for me to say is welcome - again - to Sheffield, where I hope you have truly memorable times, make good friends, obtain super grades, get a top job in the area and help expand the SUBHC hockey family.

Yours Truly,
Bob Hindle, Chairman

TATTOO these IMPORTANT DATES-somewhere

Posted by  banzai
Hi Folks-

I know it's hard but try to forget the weather hindering the hockey and get your heads round the 2 upcoming, important events in the SUBHC social calendar-

SATURDAY 3rd MARCH-The SUBHC OLYMPICS RACE NITE, at the Cobden View ,with turnstyles opening around 7.00pm.

NO KIDDING! This is a unique event-NO SCREEN! NO PROJECTOR! But LIVE PARTICIPATION from some of YOU, the SUBHC members-YOU will be our "horses" and the crowd will bet heavily on you, in each of the 8 races, with 6 "animals" per race.

Each race will be sponsored to the value of between £15-£20 and if the owner's runner WINS then the owner WINS the sponsor's prize and because the format i unique, the winning "stallion or filly" will ALSO get a nice prize!!!

The lovely pair of Fruity and Pegs will be with you very soon to become a runner and will then start to sell you, to others.[Ace "Wonga.com" salesperson-Ray-has relinquished the post]. We need to sell 48 horses, in total.

There will be the highly successful TOTE TABLE in operation [Fungus WILL be wearing a short skirt again, by popular request], which will be managed by the Men's 1's,again.

That erudite and best Aussie player we've ever had-aka Davo-will , again, by popular request be our MC-be prepared to have insults lavished upon you-girls [and fellas]!

Price of each horse is yet to be determined but will be about the same as last year.

There will be Race Cards soon. The team of Brooky [Big] and Ickle, along with Pegs and Fruity will be conjuring up all the wonderful "Hands On" events.

For my part, I will be selling the MAIN EVENT tickets at, again, just a FIVER, which will include superb food AND PRIZES GALORE and ,of course, a FREE raffle.

All team captains-except Messrs Weightman, Downham and Moore- who were not at selection- have received details.

TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE FROM ME or via your skippers BUT please make sure you pay, at the time. See me this Saturday 10th February at the CV,please.

This is a terrific FUN, FUN,occasion which brings the whole Club together and earns some much needed funds, so your SUPPORT would be GREAT!!

Guys and gals-feel free to dress up-a horsey theme is but one suggestion-as there will be some prizes, yes more prizes!

FRIDAY 30th MARCH-THE AWARDS DINNER, at the Beauchief Hotel. PUSH BACK from 7.00pm.

TATTOO this date also, somewhere, preferably where it can be seen!

More details soon but there WILL be a good wine deal, price will be about the same and a "SPECIAL OFFER" will again be available... and the food-if not entirely enough for the likes of Fruity and Tim Major will be bloody tasty-les poulet avec trimmings is favoured.

Advanced bookings-just had at least 5 from some "old" boys-will be essential-be warned.

SEE ME soon re BOTH FUNCTIONS.

Got other work to do for the CLUB-so must end now.

Look eagerly forward to talking with you.

Yours in Friendship,

Bob[Banzai]

You'll no doubt be shocked to discover that training is cancelled this evening, on account of the Goodwin pitches being unplayable. We will update you ahead of Thursday's planned session.

SUBHC.org.uk - A Reminder

Posted by  Mole
A very good afternoon to all of our subscribers.

Those of you who are signed up to our website may like to know that not everyone who views these pages is a member of SUBHC. We are happy to have among our number a range of ex-members, many of whom have now joined other clubs, both in Yorkshire and beyond (yes, such places do exist). We will always welcome anyone who wishes to stay in touch with their old team mates and friends, or just keep track of how their old club is progressing.

If you are count yourself among these, please bear the following in mind. Users of SUBHC.org.uk are encouraged to express their opinions, and to do so in a way which maintains a certain standard of wit and humour. Our match reports, forum posts and selection messages often include subtle and not-so-subtle digs at opposition teams, players, umpires and supporters. This is never done with the intention of offending, rather to make light of what might otherwise be taken far too seriously - the great game of hockey.

We count ourselves fortunate to have many contributors to this website who are able to express themselves in a way which (to us at least) is both entertaining and amusing. We make no apologies however, for the fact that material posted here has an SUB 'slant'. This is our website after all, and as such acts as a virtual clubhouse. Subscribers should not be surprised therefore, to find that other clubs are not always necessarily painted in the most flattering of lights.

In a similar vein, some of our members are registered with 'That Other Club's' website, and would cheerily expect barbs and badinage to be aimed in their direction. One of my own forum posts on this website was included in their newsletter the following week, with some very unflattering responses. I of course took it as a compliment.

We would hope that if anyone is offended by something they read, they would notify us directly. We are happy to review our content and make editions or deletions where necessary and appropriate. We reserve the right however, to post content which is aimed at our own members. We ask you to remember that when viewing any content on this website.

Thanks you for continuing to support SUBHC through this website.
