Sheffield University Bankers Hockey Club - Sign Up
Hi, and a warm welcome,

If you are a Fresher or new to the area, then this is especially for you.

Are you ALREADY good enough to be a NATIONAL League player? If so, you're in!

Are you NEARLY good enough? If so, then you're almost in!

Are you GETTING better? If so, you too could be in!

Whatever your hockey skills and desires we at SUBHC will have something for you. We currently run 8 Men's sides and 1 Ladies' with most teams playing at decent levels...but what we can ensure is that you will enjoy your hockey with us.

At the Freshers' trials in September, our Club Captain and his team will be on hand with information and advice.

At the Freshers' Bazaar, you will have been told about the good relationship which exists between our two clubs and the benefits to be garnered by being a member of both.

Join us and see for yourself.

Initially, your key contacts are -- Lee "Touli" Toulson and Adam "Fletch" Fletcher both responsible for our top four teams and Ross "Shergar" Kimpton who did a splendid job (last year) looking after the remaining sides. Details as follows:-
* Touli - 07764449814
* Fletch - 07903023630
* Shergar 07879623086

Our clubhouse is known as "The Notty" and is a mere long corner from the pitches. It's a tenanted pub, more traditional and is famous for it's terrific pies! The landlord Ritchie is not a bad chap either.

Finally, all that is now left for me to say is welcome - again - to Sheffield where I hope you have truly memorable times, make good friends, obtain super grades, get a top job in the area and help expand the SUBHC hockey family.

Yours Truly
Bob Hindle, Chairman

Hi Everyone- that could be my devoted 2 or 3 fans and perhaps even more in due course-who knows!

Lorra, lorra news and goss about and you read [prounce it reed]it hear first-almost!I'm told nursing hangovers is a worthy and chtistian task!

Ben, Richard and Manny have agreed to join us and help us pursue our objective of a swift return to the National league. More details in due course. We just need one more guy to plug the Dyke.

Equally delighted to say that Dill-aka Andy Newton-is taking root in Sheffield with the lovely lady of his life--and intends to concentrate on his hockey which has, in the view of the writer, slipped to Beahan levels.

Also, great news is that the irrepressible Fruitbatt aka Christina Woods, is not now going to Germany for a year or so and will be staying on here. She will be our lady's Captain for the upcoming season and will be ,most ably, assisted by Izzy. In every way a formidable twosome who , I am sure will do a fab job.

On the departure front we look like losing one of "our" local lads, Smitty who is attempting to do a Joe Cole with Beeston but might have to settle for say,a Stoke City type of team! It would have been good, to carry on the football analogy abit further,if he'd agreed to stay on with say, a Sheffield Utd/Leeds outfit and help the promo push. Hey Ho, we wish him well whatever bench his bum rests upon.
I also hear that Carl Ward might be taking his stick with him back to Chapeltown, and again we wish him well and hope his National League experience is put to good use.
Lastly, on this matter, we also learn we might be losing Giblet aka Liam Ashton, who has got a job in Manchester, and hopefully will continue to apply his hockey skills over there.

If anybody else should get a mention-get in touch.

Important dates which will also be plastered-have you recovered Andy Reid-all over, so try and get to read thr news somewhere and no apologies for duplication

TRAINING-CLUB TRAINING-fitness & fun-every THURSDAY, at 7.30 on Tapton School playing fields. It's free so get that body there-I'm thinking especially of you Studsie!Goodwin Training starts on the 26th AUGUST- a THURSDAY-from 8 till 10.
This is a costly investment so please make it pay. There will be coaching, I am advised.
-1's and 2's training at Goodwin commences on THURSDAY 19th AUGUST from 8.00pm-get there early.Thereafter, training is on TWO nights-MONDAYS-8.30 till 10.00pm and THURSDAYS from 8 till 10.00pm but this is shared between the whole Club with, I believe, some coaching contribution from the 1's. But you need to talk to the likes of Jonny Clark/Lee Toulson et al.

In addition to all of this Graham Seaton-"Thespo"- to all, has organised a pretty extensive pre-season prog of games from the 28th August, thru' most of September, so in terms of getting fit, there is NO excuse now.Again , talk to Jonny Clark-Premier Club Captain [1's 2's and ladies]-Pony Stewart-Intermediate CC [3's 4's 5's]and John Moloughney-Development CC [6's 7's 8's]. if you have not by any chance got their numbers get in touch with me -0776 522 8364.

HULLABALOO-4th SEptember. Again some hockey FUN-hopefully in the sun with food at the Notty later.Contact Pony and John for more details, now.

Finally, two more important dates to jot down somewhere, whatever system you use-
SUNDAY 19th SEPTEMBER is PRE-SEASON meet day, at the Polish Centre-Ecclesall Rd, S11 and will commence at 5.00pm. Nibbles will be available. We endeavour to bring you bang up to date then.

Top two teams start their league prog from the 25th September, with the 2's at home to Chapeltown-a local derby- so VAST amount of support will be needed.

Did I say two dates? I meant three as the FULL league prog sticks off on the2nd October. Will you be Fit, Fast and Committed?

Enough for now but visit your Book of Shame page or mine to follow the news from SUBHC.

We's gonna have a lorra ,lorra fun are'nt we, Irish?

Yours in Friendship, Bob

A few of the older/elder and perhaps wiser(!) Subhc members are likely to be in the Notty from around 6.30 ish,on Thursday 17th June and there could the odd jug or three for those of you leaving for good, for pastures and fortunes new.
We'd be pleased to see you.
If anybody else cares to be sociable, that would also be nice.
As this is not the most widely ridden of vehicles,I shall put something on the Admin page and the Subhc Facebook site as well.

By the way, I must tell you that one of your favourite umpires-Uncle Graham-makes for a very handsome Wife of Bath,in Chaucer's Cantebury Tales. It wer a "reight" go do as they say in Sheffield.

Finally,to those of you who cannot make Thursday, may I on behalf of the EC,thank you for your contribution and hope you enjoyed your time with us and will look back fondly at the happy memories.

May your futures be truly prosperous ones. Good Luck. Bob H

Hi

I know! I know! We're back again but it's only a quickie!
Our Men's 1's are now in the North League-PREMIER DIV-as Indian Gym beat OG's 3-2 yesterday. Let's hope our boys do not have to travel to leafy Surrey for a dead but very expensive rubber.

It's a small step back which will enable us to re-group for another pop at the National League, the season after.

Still awaiting some invoices to come in for the Awards Dinner but an early guesstimate is we are heading for a better than forecast NOTIONAL profit.I say notional, as I'm still waiting for some people to pay me for the event!
Have had further, decent feedback about the do and also that a burgeoning friendship is on the horizon--I wonder if the sky is a light shade of PINK?

If the reader of this is a member of the successful "100" Club, please note the free FISH & CHIP SUPPER & GRAND PRIZE DRAW is this FRIDAY at the POLISH CENTRE and food will be served at 8.00 pm sharp.Get in touch with me if you'd forgotten-asap.

That's it. Cheers.Bob

Dear Reader, unless something momentous occurs thru' the summer, this column will take a bit of a back seat. But as my feminine side MIGHT just come out, I too reserve the right to change my mind!

Now that the SUBHC DUST has just about settled - we play OG on the 1st May (A) - it's fair to say the last few days of last week were hectic.

The AGM turnout was disappointing but as it clashed with Varsity nobody was too surprised. To ensure we have a better turnout next year, Pegasus has promised to wing me some info as soon as possible, as to next year's Varsity event.

The quality of the information provided by Mole at the AGM was excellent, in terms of what we achieved financially, and if ever there was a case of "less is more", this was it. Our other objective of getting the MOJO back into the Club was also successful. However, your "new" EC (thank you for your unanimous vote of confidence) will not be arse-bound and I know work has already started. As Mole said this new season will see more of the same but now it will be tweaking rather than open heart surgery. Look out for subs details etc. soon, on the various sites.

Now then! Now then! Boys and girls - I hope you enjoyed our AWARDS Dinner. I do believe further friendships of many kinds were formed at the event, and possibly later! Judging by the croaky voices, pale faces and bloodshot eyes on the Saturday, it was a function where you just had to try and ENJOY yourselves. This was confirmed by our excited and excitable ladies who were, once again, beautifully turned out and, along with the 4s, just about made their presence felt. I know who I'd have given my best dressed lady vote to!! As did most of the top table!

Whilst this may not be, perhaps, quite the place to raise the matter of dubious behaviour, it was however brought to my notice (I'd already noticed),so I shall mention it as I have now done and the 2 or 3 individuals concerned will be contacted, in due course.

Our guests thought it a "reight good do" and have put their names down for next year! We did do OK for the Treasurer but I need to get that sorted this week and will advise. Moving seamlessly on to Mole then, what about his Wicket Willie performance? A STAR and a surprise package was the quote I regularly got. At next year's AGM he will present the accounts in similar fashion!

Finally, I'd like to thank you ALL for helping to make it a pretty darn good event and some of the suggestions made to me, later on the Saturday, will be seriously considered but I WILL WANT SOME HELP from the STUDENT members of the Club - PEGASUS!

Now, unfortunately - and we cannot truly blame the Awards Dinner - our guys lost the first play off game 4-2 to Indian Gym in front of a large and very supportive crowd (thank you folks). We lost this game in the first 15/20 minutes and despite a stern fight back we were, eventually, beaten by their main danger man scoring three. Purely a personal view but could we not have picked his pocket for 70 minutes?

Ah well, roll on May the 1st when we take on OG - may the "high tempo" gods be with us from the start!

Sorry to end on another loss but our Vets lost their semi v Harrogate 6-1. Hardly surprising when we had only 10 men, but for a Club of our size it's pretty poor. This area of weakness will be looked at for next season.

As we cannot end with two crap results, let's have a quick recap:
* The Notty - fab'lass as they say in Welsh Wales! AWESOME as Hadfield from downtown Hunters Bar would exhort. Absolutely terrific old chap, Squire Erskine would opine!
* Free teas - quality, and "please Sir, can I have some more?" cried Oscar.
* Two Race Nites - both money making WINNERS and great FUN. Hats off to the girls!
* Quiz Nite - great fun and enjoyed by the BIG brains. Weightman's Wonders pip lovely Lisa and her gang - much to her chagrin.
* Big Ball - enjoyable but could have been soooooooooo much better.
* AWARDS DINNER - cracking way to bring the curtain down.

HAVE A BRILLIANT SUMMER - DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT - RECHARGE THE BATTERIES - WASH THAT FILTHY SMELLING KIT AND DUST OFF THOSE HOCKEY COBWEBS.

SEE YOU SOON!

Bob

*PS-HOPE YOUR MATCH MAKING WORKS OUT EMMA, YOU MINX! ANGRY PIRATE, PULL YOUR FINGER OUT AND ASK LAURA (NO NOT THAT ONE) FOR A DATE THIS WEEK - DON'T LET FOOTIE GET IN THE WAY! MIND YOU WE ALL THOUGHT SARAH WAS SPECIAL TOO!
